Dr. med. vet. Martin Deutschland DVM MRCVS

Martin studied at the Free University Veterinary School in Berlin, Germany and qualified in 1994. After a short period working for Royal Canin Veterinary Products, he started to locum as a freelance vet in various places, mainly around Cologne. A short excursion into mixed practice in Cambridgeshire was followed by a period at Cranmore Veterinary Centre, which included a large amount of Exotic Animal Medicine with Brian Coles FRCVS.

In 2000 the exotic pet department of the Veterinary University Brno allowed him to increase his reptile knowledge massively during an three month internship.

A paternal break in 2001 gave Martin the opportunity to finish his doctorate about “Chiari-like malformation in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels”.

Martin re-joined the profession by working at the Veterinary Clinic in Europe’s biggest Animal shelter in Berlin-Hohenschoenhausen. In September 2004, a few months after the opening of the new ChesterGates Referral Hospital, he took co-responsibility for the Out-of-Hours Emergency Clinic there.

Since 2007 Martin has been part of the Neurology team at ChesterGates and, in December 2007, he started his ECVN residency. His particular interests are Chiari-like malformation/syringomyelia, ventricular disorders and neurological diseases in Exotic Pets.

Martin has two children and still does lots of cycling and plays Volleyball for the Chester VC.
